Harvard and Beyond
The US university programme doesn't have you specialise to the same degree that you would if you were going to uni in the UK. If you intend to study towards a profession such as law, medicine or business, for example, you will be wondering how a first degree from the US translates into the UK.
Harvard grads are often asked by students whether there are any difficulties in re-entering the UK to look for work, and how the Harvard degree is viewed by prospective employers.
We have asked a recent "pre-law" graduate to share his thoughts on the process of returning home: he talks about taking the law conversion course (aka The Common Professional Examination) and how the Harvard degree was viewed by his employer.Click here for his page.
We also asked a recent "pre-med" grad, Dr. Laura Spence, Graduating Class of '04, to share her experience at Harvard, as she prepared for a medical career in the UK. Click here to read her story.

Chris Lambert Harvard Class of 2003 I was born in Dulwich, London and lived in Southeast London between Camberwell and Brockley until I left to go to Harvard. I attended primary school at Oliver Goldsmith's in Peckham and secondary at Haberdashers' Aske's in New Cross. At Aske's I played Clarinet to Grade 8 and rubgy and athletics for the school, going on to sprint for London, England and Great Britain. My time there culminated with me being School Captain and made British captain for the Junior team. I went to Harvard intending to study English but having had enough of Shakespeare, turned to Government in which field I graduated BA in 2003. I ran on the track & field team and continued to compete for my country in the summer. I loved my time at Harvard, particularly the second two years, when I felt more at home and spent my time between my studies, sprints and social life, not always perfectly balanced, but really enjoying life there on the way. Returning to London after graduation I ran professionally attending Olympic Games, World Championships and all other major international competitions. I recently retired due to injury and am looking at the real world job scene! |

Tim Creamer When I arrived at Harvard, I continued to play rugby with the Harvard club team and became increasingly involved with Harvard Student Agencies (HSA), a student-run company on campus. Having worked with the corporation since Freshman year, I was elected President as a Junior and spent a year running the $5M business. I graduated with a BA in Economics and have recently assumed an analyst postion at a Boston-based (USA) venture capital firm. Inspired by my business experience at HSA, I applied to the Harvard Business School and have been accepted for the autumn of 2011. |
