Visiting Boston and Cambridge from the UK
Just across the Charles River and a twelve-minute tube ride from downtown Boston, Harvard Square is the hub of student life in Cambridge. "The Square" has loads of unusual clothing shops, places to eat or have a coffee, excellent bookshops, cinemas and entertainment venues. Sporting events, theatre, concerts, and colourful street performers also draw neighbours and visitors to Harvard Square. Cambridge is one of metropolitan Boston's vital urban centres and is part of a comprehensive public transport network.
The port city of Boston and its environs are often referred to as America's premier "college town," with 200,000 students in over 50 academic institutions in the area. While Boston is full of history and colonial architecture, it is also a modern city with thriving high tech, financial, and biotech industries among others. The Boston waterfront, famous for its 18th century Revolutionary War "tea party," boasts a world-famous aquarium and science museum, as well as numerous opportunities for walks through historic districts or cruises to its many islands and recreational areas.
The city's newspaper, the Boston Globe has a website with more information about places to eat, stay and visit. Click here to visit the Boston Globe website.
